Is the free output a real .xlsx or a renamed .csv?

A real .xlsx — an OOXML ZIP package with typed cells. Excel opens it as a normal workbook, not as imported CSV.

Any watermarks in the free Excel output?

None. The workbook has no Plotiq branding, cover sheet, or footer.

Can I use the free Excel output at work?

Yes. There's no license or acceptable-use restriction on the output — it's your data in a standard file format.
